The Sheva Minim Collection

In describing the extraordinary beauty and uniqueness of the Land of Israel, Scripture tells us, “For the L‑rd your G‑d is bringing you to a good land, a land with brooks of water ... a land of wheat and barley, grapes and figs, pomegranates, dates and olives. 

I think of the seven species as God's functional art. With their rich palette of colors, varied textures, angles and curves, they are truly works of art!  That they also provide nourishment and nutrition makes them also functional. 

My ceramic art practice is devoted to functional art because I believe that by using my creativity to make things for use in every day life,  the mundane is elevatde to a kind of sacred celebration of life, and that makes it....a beautiful thing.
