Galilee Green Abstract Landscape Menorah

Menorah as art, or art as menorah? However you choose to look at it, this one-of-a-kind menorah is functional art for use each year on Chanukah, and Jewish art to display all year long.

In designing this menorah I wanted to evoke its ancient beginnings while giving it a contemporary feel. I hand-shaped it in organic lines and left some exposed clay as a visual reference to the Second Temple period. It is glazed in asymmetrical waves of greens, blues and teals, with earth tones and burgundy accents. The nine candle holders, which hold either candles or glass vials for olive oil, have 22K gold accents fired on after the bisque and glaze firings.

The menorah in these photos has found its home. I have the same handmade form ready in bisque, and I'll glaze yours in this same palette. Abstract glazes are dipped and poured, so every firing creates its own play of color — yours will share this one's palette and spirit, while its surface will be entirely its own.
